How Conservations are Helping Giraffes

Giraffe Conservation

The topic that I have chosen to talk about today is Girrafes. (This is my favorite animal!) Even though the Giraffe is an animal that isn't on the extinct list there are still many things that are bringing down the giraffe population. In an article on giraffe conservation they stated, "in many parts of Africa, poaching and killing of giraffes continue in large numbers due to illegal hunting practices which include sports hunt, selling their coats, and even consuming their meat." This quote from the article helps describe different ways that these animals are in danger. After reading many articles about conservation over the past couple weeks I have found that one of the main reasons poaching is occurring is because these hunters are wanting to use these animals for money. I believe that conservations are a huge help for stopping poachers from killing these animals. A quote that stood out to me when reading the article stated, "The giraffe is a protected species throughout most of Africa, and there are quite a few sanctuaries where these animals can freely roam without a threat and with plenty of food." To me, this quote helps us understand that even though there are many places that these animals are safe, there are still people in the world who will find a way to kill these animals. Even though the Giraffe is one of the least extinct animals, there is still a chance that the animal could go extinct. Thanks to the Conservations and the people who help donate or adopt the animals the rate of extinction has decreased.

  2. I never thought as giraffes being hunted for money. Not to say they are not important, but they seem to get pushed aside because they are not as endangered as other species like elephants. I found your post educational and interesting to read. It was nice to learn something new about conservation.

  3. To be honest I hate the idea of killing wild animals I know when I say things like this I sound like a hypocrite and most people do because we eat animals. I don't like zoos either I think animals belong in their homes with their other species, they have families just like we do. I think that if we don't do anything about the hunting we might kill all wild animals and everything will fall after that.
