What is extinction? By: Jenna Elliott

Extinction is when a particular plans and or animal species is no longer found anywhere is the world. Extinction does not usually abruptly occur. The course of extinction is usually gradual. This being said there will be a steady decrease in the population of that plant and or animal. Since extinction is in stages the conservation has the stages divided into 7 different categories. These categories are least concern, near threatened, vulnerable, endangered, critically endangered, extinct in the wild and extinct. What can we do to help stop the extinction of plants and animals? We could be an advocate and spread awareness, never purchase any product that are from an endangered species, reduce the carbon footprints and much more.

  1. I love that you brought up the different levels of extinction, I didn’t know there were seven levels until right now. You brought light to a serious issue and briefly mentioned how we can play a part in slowing extinction I just wish you would’ve gone a little more in depth about what we can do and what species are endangered or have gone extinct.

  2. I find your post very intriguing because you chose a great picture with detail and if people are scrolling past, then they are going to want to stop and look at it. Scrolling by and seeing a topic as interesting as extinction with a great picture makes me want to read the article. I myself have little to know knowledge of animal extinction, but I love animals and your post gave me a short and sweet, but also good summarization of the topic.

  3. I think you did a really good job with mentioning awareness and how people can reduce their carbon footprint. I like that you mentioned the seven category’s that endangered and extinct species are placed in to show people the severity of their numbers.

  4. Fighting for endangered species should actually be a bigger fight than it already is humans are a species as well, so in some way we are connected to all other animals by a chain, but once we start taking animal out of that chain where is that going to leave us for the future of humanity. Also we have to think about hunting animals, using them to make clothes, just killing them for fun is just not ethical at all, but then there is a dilemma for some people, because not everybody uses products that aren’t tested on animals. It’s kind of hard to live a life without using animal products for some people.

  5. I like that you explained the stages of extinction and brought it up as the focus of your article, but if you added a little more information on what causes extinction I think that would really build your blog. -Holly B.
