Natural Resources: Melting Glaciers Blog Post #5

The melting of glaciers is a huge problem in our environment today. Not only will such a naturally beautiful attraction be lost, but homes, towns, cities, and rivers will soon break away from the impact of Climate Change. When glaciers began to melt sea levels began to rise and when see levels rise, tropical storms and hurricanes become more aggressive and frequent. Causing rivers to overflow and damage homes. For example, the film we watched in class does a really good job at showing the different storms and floods in Bangladesh, that are caused because of the melting of glaciers and climate change. It truly shows the effect that climate change can have on a community.

In the article it states; "The rise in sea levels due to melting glaciers can bring about super typhoons and other extreme climate phenomena, resulting in an even more serious, complex disaster,"Prof. Kim said. "That is why we have to become a net-zero society."
Net-Zero refers to the balance between the amount of greenhouse gas produced and the amount removed from the atmosphere. We reach net zero when the amount we add is no more than the amount taken.

  1. I really enjoyed reading your post!! I think that it is terrible what is happening to the glaciers. There are animals that are losing their homes over this which is very sad to think about!

  2. I really liked you post. When I use to think about the seas rising I never really thought about other countries like Bangladesh or other island nations. In the USA we worry about Florida but there are so many others that will be impacted by the rising seas. I can’t imagine how hard it is and will be for all those living on islands and coastal regions.

  3. I think that your post provided good information on how the melting is going to affect the world a s a whole. Over time there is going to be land that is covered in water. Even tough it is healthy land now the rising of sea level will change the world and what land we will no longer have. Many costal states are in danger because of the rising sea levels.

  4. What is even worse about the glaciers melting is that it will cause an unrelenting chain reaction in our environment and we will not be able to stop it because we refused to take action years ago. It’s like what’s next when the methane gases release afterwards or during these typhoons or other extreme climate.

  5. I really enjoyed your post because a lot of people don’t really think about the articular glaciers I feel like because I feel like more people don’t live near it but the effects of the cold and heat really do affect all of us and I think that is just terrible what’s happening to the glaciers in the snow is that I see parts of the world a lot of us so many things are dependent uponThe glaciers and I don’t think people understand that like the Arctic and Arctic places are still a huge part of our environment even if you don’t live in that region or I don’t see that region all the time because the glacier is that melt make the water temperature rise everywhere.
