 The primary use for iron ore is to make iron which is usually put into steel products. Steel makes vehicles, rods for cement, and several other items. It’s the most used metal by both tonnage and purpose.  Only 2% of iron is used for other purposes than steel production. Here are some of the uses..

Powdered iron - makes certain types of steels, magnets, vehicles 

Radioactive iron - for medicine and as a tracer element for biochemical and metallurgical research 

Iron blue - in paints, cosmetics, dyes, etc 

Black iron oxide- a pigment in polishing compounds
